From graphic design, web design to photography, I’m totally exhausted and it’s been 3 months since my last post. Today, I would like to share you something that gets my attention.

Anyway, there is no internationally recognized symbol for human rights. The “Logo for Human Rights” initiative wants to change that! Logos win people over through their symbolic power, distinctiveness, clarity and universal applicability.

The initiative was established out of conviction that a human rights logo will make a peaceful contribution towards the global spread and implementation of human rights. In order to find this logo, a global creative online competition with cash prizes and open to everyone is to be launched. The initiative has the support of renowned stakeholders, supporters and partners from all walks of life.

The aim of the initiative is to create a human rights logo “by people for people”, thus making a contribution towards the global spread and implementation of human rights with the support of a large public.

Upon digging about this 2011 Logo Contest, I found a very smart post from writer John Pavlus in Fast Company’s Co. Design. See below excerpt from his post.

Great design is a solution to a specific problem, and the best way to get great design is to articulate that problem specifically. “There is no globally recognized logo for human rights” is more of a circular statement in this context than a design problem. Why should there be a logo? The site doesn’t really make a strong case, but it is an interesting question to consider.

What can I say, intriguing right? If you want to know more, go ahead and check the site for yourself at humanrightslogo.net and submit your entries if you want.

Enjoy!

Holy Red-nosed Reindeer! It’s another vector-art greeting card contest by Foldees.com – the ultimate designer greeting card portal!

For our second contest, Foldees is decking the halls with our love for comic books! We’re looking for some people with great ideas for comic-book themed greeting cards! They can look like comic book covers, be designed as a comic strip, or even just depicting any sorta comic book artwork – be it anime, American, classic… anything goes!
From today until the 20th of October 2008, we’d like YOU to submit your design here and win up to US$2500 worth of prizes! After that, we open the site up for ratings and reviews, and the best rated greeting cards will get to dip their hands into Santa’s Bag’o’Gadgets!

Santa’s Bag’o’Gadgets (you choose what you win!)
This time around, Santa’s asked us to give out our gifts a bit differently than from our last contest. The top ten rated cards will all get to choose what they win! That’s right – this means that 1st place will choose first, followed by 2nd place, 3rd and 4th and so on! This means everyone ends up with something they want, rather than just something bigger or better!

What’s in the Bag’o’Gadgets, you ask?

Belkin Messenger Bag (15.4″)

iPod Classic 80 GB

iPod Touch 8 GB

iPod Nano 8 GB

LG 22″ WideScreen LCD Monitor

WACOM Bamboo Fun Tablet (6×9)

Canon MPC145 All-in-One Printer

Apple Wired Keyboard & Mighty Mouse

Western Digital 320 GB MyBook

Flash Drive 8 GB

Not enough? How about some CASH thrown in for the top three rated cards!?

1st prize – US$600 + 1st dibs into Santa’s Bag’o’Gadgets
2nd prize – US$300 + 2nd dibs into Santa’s Bag’o’Gadgets
3rd prize – US$150 + 3rd dibs into Santa’s Bag’o’Gadgets

If that isn’t enough, remember that if your card gets approved (you don’t even have to be in the top ten!), Foldees pays US$0.10 every time your card is bought on our site*!

So don’t wait, participate!

How to Participate?
Simply download our AI template here, use it to design a card and upload the complete AI file back to our contest site www.foldees.com/contestentry.aspx with your details before 20th October 2008!

Here’s the catch. You’re not allowed to use any raster images, gradients or opacities for your cards. All cards have to be created using only solid colour vector art in Adobe Illustrator. This excludes not only JPG or TIFF images, but also any form of shadowing, filters or transparencies of colour. Only amateurs don’t draw their own shadows right? Get creative and we’d love to see what you can come up with.
